Arizona State Basketball: 2021-22 season preview and outlook for Sun Devils
Schedule outlook
Arizona State basketball has an interesting schedule for the 2021-22 season, featuring a nice mix of high and low-major college programs to tune them up for Pac-12 basketball play in January. They’ll open the season with three home games against Portland (Nov. 9), UC-Riverside (Nov. 11), and, North Florida (Nov. 15), which should be good confidence boosters before their first road contest against San Diego State (Nov. 18).
The Sun Devils will take their show to Nassau in the Bahamas in the Battle 4 Atlantis. Their hands will be full in the opening game against defending national champion Baylor (Nov. 24). They’ll take on VCU/Syracuse, depending on the result on Nov. 25. After that, they’ll have Michigan State/UConn/Auburn/Loyola on the agenda on Nov. 26 to close things out.
Arizona State basketball will return home with Pac-12 basketball on the agenda on Dec. 1 with Washington State then travel on the road to face Oregon on Dec. 5 before returning to the final four games of non-conference action.
The Sun Devils will host Grand Canyon on Dec. 9 then face Big East stalwart Creighton on Dec. 14 before their final two home games against San Francisco (Dec. 19) and Florida A&M (Dec. 21).
There should be a reason for optimism and a favorable record for Coach Hurley and company entering the bulk of the Pac-12 basketball schedule, but their first two games are on the road against USC (Dec. 30) and UCLA (Jan. 1).
After those two on the road, they have three straight home games against Arizona (Jan. 8), Utah (Jan. 13), and Colorado (Jan. 15) which should be a good test for them before three consecutive road contests.
California (Jan. 19), Stanford (Jan. 22), and Arizona (Jan. 29) will wrap things up in January before a big test run in the month of February.
February will be a tough opening month with USC (Feb. 3) and UCLA (Feb. 5) on the agenda before going on the road to face Washington (Feb. 10) and Washington State (Feb. 12).
They’ll return home to face Oregon (Feb. 17) and Oregon State (Feb. 19) before going back on the road to face Colorado (Feb. 24) and Utah (Feb. 26).
Arizona State basketball will close out the Pac-12 basketball slate with two games at home against California (March 3) and Stanford (March 5) before the conference tournament begins on March 9 and ends on March 12.
