2021-22 season outlook

Arizona State basketball has a good opportunity on the horizon this season with the potential to end up as an NCAA Tournament squad and much improved from the team they were a season ago.

Injuries and Covid-19 plagued their 2020-21 season as they went 11-14 on the season and 7-10 in Pac-12 basketball action, finishing ninth in the standings.

With Marcus Bagley back and healthy after testing the NBA Draft waters, he’s set to make quite the impact in the rotation after a full offseason and preseason. Enoch Boakye is another young name in the frontcourt that’ll be one to keep eyes on. He’s a mobile forward with good length and nice upside as an NBA prospect that could take the Pac-12 basketball ranks by storm come January.

Jalen Graham and Kimani Lawrence give them a solid nucleus of players in the frontcourt to start out with but others will need to step up, especially on the rebounding and defensive front, for them to be successful. Their lack of a presence in the paint was their biggest downfall in 2020-21.

The big test will be how the backcourt can adjust with Marreon Jackson, Jay Heath, and D.J. Horne joining the rotation. They all bring something valuable to the rotation and if each can play the roles needed to win basketball games, things could be on the rise in Tempe this March.
