Big 12 Basketball power rankings: Iowa State, Texas Tech on the rise

9. TCU (10-1, 0-0)
It’s a testament to the strength of the Big 12 that we can’t have TCU any higher than second from last. The Horned Frogs have certainly not played the toughest schedule and they certainly can’t be called amazing, but Jamie Dixon’s squad is doing what they can. They’ve got a very solid scorer in Mike Miles, but are still waiting to begin Big 12 play, having been on COVID pause in recent weeks.
Considered by many an afterthought in this tough conference on a yearly basis, TCU has taken care of business in non-conference play, with their one loss coming to a feisty Santa Clara team back before Thanksgiving. They’ve picked up some nice neutral-site wins against Utah and Texas A&M and did win on the road at Georgetown. However, the teams they’ll face on a daily basis in Big 12 play will be significantly tougher.
There have been good vibes at TCU since Jamie Dixon took over this program nearly six years ago, and a 10-1 start keeps those vibes going. Unfortunately, with teams like Baylor, Iowa State, and Texas on the schedule in the coming weeks, the losses should soon start piling up for the Horned Frogs. This offense has struggled for the most part, even against an easy schedule, leaving a lot of pressure on their defense these next two months.
