When Georgia hired Tom Crean back in 2018, there was an expectation that this Bulldogs program would have a little bit of a revival. We’ve seen these kinds of bounce backs with other teams in the SEC, specifically at Alabama, Arkansas, and LSU in the last few seasons alone. Even with top-recruit Anthony Edwards and a slew of other talent over these first four years, Crean has yet to make an impact and Georgia sits undoubtedly in the SEC basement.

One of the most mind-boggling moments of the season came in early December when the Bulldogs actually beat Memphis, earning what is by far their best win of the season. Georgia has lost at home to Wofford, George Mason, East Tennessee State, and Gardner-Webb, but on that Wednesday they had the answer for a struggling Tigers team. Overall, the nonconference slate was ugly, and the Bulldogs couldn’t even win a game away from home. They’ve dropped their first two SEC games, with one of those being a 2-point loss to Texas A&M last week.

It’s very likely that four years is all that Crean is going to get and Georgia will have a number of options to replace him. Instead of focusing on what could happen this season, perhaps it’s best to think about the future. It’s hard to imagine this team winning multiple SEC games unless they can replicate that Memphis performance on a more regular basis. The talent just isn’t there for this Bulldogs squad right now to compete in this league. Maybe the future will shine brighter for this program like it has for many of their conference rivals.
