Arizona Basketball: 3 keys to Wildcats beating TCU in Round of 32
TCU is the best offensive rebounding team in the country
The final thing Arizona must do to secure a victory and move on to the Sweet 16 is use the size of Koloko, Tubelis, Ballo, and others to dominate the defensive glass. It may seem obvious with a team that has the interior portfolio of Arizona, but winning the battle on the defensive boards is extra important against TCU.
The Horned Frogs are the best team in the country when it comes to banging on the offensive glass. TCU ranks No. 1 in offensive rebounding percentage, pulling down 37.8%, which has led to a second-chance points conversion rate that is 25th in the country. When it comes to offensive rebounding, TCU uses a gang mentality with five players having pulled down 40 or more on the season. That means it will be critical for all five players on the floor for Arizona to find a body when the shot goes up on the defensive end.
This is where Arizona’s length in spades should come into play, in making sure a team that doesn’t shoot the ball that well outside of 15 feet doesn’t get extra opportunities at getting points. If Arizona can make TCU shoot from the free-throw line and beyond and secure missed shots, a slot in the Sweet 16 should be theirs.
