Oregon Basketball: Profile of five-star class of 2023 commit Mookie Cook
What to expect
Under Coach Altman at UO Cook will probably be used to guard the best player on the opposite team. On offense, he still has some ways to go to being a legitimate threat on the ball. He will definitely get those touches like we have seen with prior wings under Altman (Tyler Dorsey, Dillon Brooks, Chris Duarte). Getting someone of Cook’s caliber there is going to be hope he displays All-American 2-way potential. Affecting the game on both ends which he is very capable of doing.
Cook will command a lot of attention playing at Oregon as it is his hometown school. Great expectations will be immediate as soon as he steps foot on campus. UO faithful will also be tuned in for his last Grassroots and High School season over the next couple of months, watching for continuous development. Getting stronger, more comfortable with the basketball, and sharpening his outside shooting will be the under the scope.
Paired with other hometown [2023] commit Jackson Shelstad, UO is going to have high aspirations going into the 2023-24 season. Can Cook live up to the billing of a premier 5-star recruit that stayed home? How will being home affect Cook, distractive or more focused? These are questions going to be asked in all different ways until a game is actually played.
UO has never had someone of this magnitude play for them. Oregon has not developed in-state talent like this before. It is a new situation for all parties involved. UO with Mookie Cook has instantly become must-watch appointment TV as this is quite the splashy commit.
