NCAA Basketball: Analyzing the 10 teams in play for transfer Baylor Scheierman
Kansas Jayhawks
The national champion Jayhawks had quality wings, Ochai Agbaji and Christian Braun from this past season. But Agbaji is off to the NBA Draft and Braun could, and likely is, also gone. There is room for Scheierman on the perimeter, as the team doesn’t have any returning non-point guards outside of redshirt freshman Kyle Cuffe.
The issue here is that the two incoming wings are five-star freshmen in MJ Rice and National High School Player of the Year Gradey Dick, who each could easily start over the former Jackrabbit. A spot in the starting lineup isn’t a sure bet here but the potential to play for a national title contender makes is a bet worth risking.
Kentucky Wildcats
No. 1 ranked freshman guard Shaedon Sharpe is off to the NBA Draft process but the belief is that he’s likely not back, leaving soon room available on the perimeter. But was that taken by the recent transfer pickup of Antonio Reeves, a 20 ppg scoring guard out of Illinois State. He very well could start in the backcourt but if the Wildcats wanted to, could have room for Scheierman as well.
The only returning proven shooter on the roster is CJ Fredrick, who is coming off missing all of last season. Having Scheierman would be a nice offensive balance with Sahvir Wheeler and Oscar Tshiebwe on the court at times but adding Reeves may affect their chances in this recruitment.
