ACC Basketball: Biggest remaining roster needs for each team for 2022-23 season
Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Center
The Irish have officially lost two key players this offseason in point guard Blake Wesley and center Paul Atkinson Jr. Niagara transfer Marcus Hammond solves the backcourt issue and there are several seniors coming back on the wings and on the perimeter.
The frontcourt is the primary issue, with forward Nate Laszewski still making a decision about his future. Either way, Notre Dame has to add a center and potentially both a center and forward to the roster, unless Ven-Allen Lubin and Dominick Campbell can become early impact freshmen contributors next season.
Pittsburgh Panthers – Power forward
The Panthers knew they were getting starting center John Hugley and returning wing Nike Sibande and guard Jamarius Burton. The rest of the roster, after seven departing transfers, needed work. But the team has plenty of experience in the backcourt thanks to 5th-year transfers, Nelly Cummings and Greg Elliott. The frontcourt also improved with Iowa State combo forward Blake Hinson, along with incoming twin freshmen, Jorge and Guillermo Díaz Graham.
But Hinson is an undersized four-man and you never know how the freshmen will play. Pittsburgh was hoping that UConn transfer Akok Akok would be the next starting forward but he’s at Georgetown. While there are current options to start alongside Hugley in the frontcourt, adding a true power forward would be the missing piece to this roster setup.
