ACC Basketball: Biggest remaining roster needs for each team for 2022-23 season
Virginia Tech Hokies – Point guard
A lot of the attention for the Hokies this offseason has surrounded starting forwards Keve Aluma and Justyn Mutts. But regardless of what they do, the team was able to land transfers Grant Basile and Mylyjael Poteat to the frontcourt. And Memphis transfer John Camden gives them a legit option at wing, as well as top-50 incoming freshman Rodney Rice.
The backcourt, now without starting point guard Storm Murphy, is the biggest question. Sean Pedulla and Hunter Cattoor are set to get most of the minutes at the lead guard spot but both are better pure shooters than distributors at this point. Another ball-handler would at least provide more security and insurance in case neither works out as a point guard.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons – Wing
Both Alondes Williams and Jake LaRavia are off to the NBA Draft but the Deacons were prepared for that, landing several transfers this offseason. In the backcourt, former Florida guard Tyree Appleby and Marist guard Jao Ituka are solid gets, while Andrew Carr is a 6’9 stretch forward from Delaware that shot 41% from deep last season. And Kansas State transfer Davion Bradford adds depth at the center spot.
The only position where there isn’t a ton of depth at is at wing, although Wake Forest has enough backcourt depth to play three-guard lineups. There wouldn’t be much size though, which could be a problem against some of the bigger rosters in the ACC. But if recent Colorado de-commit forward Bobi Klintman has a big impact as a freshman, then the Deacons may not need much help after all.
