NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Pennsylvania of last decade
By Joey Loose
6. DeAndre Kane – Marshall / Iowa State
Much like the previous slide, we come to a player who had success at another school before transferring to Iowa State for his senior season. A 6’4 guard from Pittsburgh, Kane was an important piece for his first three seasons as a potent scorer at Marshall before spending his final season in the Big 12 at Iowa State.
Kane was Marshall’s best player for those first three seasons, averaging at least 15 points per game in each of those seasons, while also putting up more than 7 assists a game as a junior. He scored a career-high 40 points in a C-USA Tournament win over Tulsa and had a triple-double with 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists against Hofstra. Kane’s senior campaign at Iowa State was even more impressive, averaging 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, leading the Cyclones to the Big 12 Tournament title and a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
Kane was thrice named All-C-USA and was even the conference’s Rookie of the Year, but really shined with the Cyclones. In that senior year, he was named First Team All-Big 12, Tournament MVP, and led the conference in points and assists, playing a major role in that lone season in Iowa. Kane showed his talent and was a top-level scorer throughout his career, and has continued that career overseas, starring in the Israeli Basketball League.
