Bracketology 2023: Creighton, West Virginia and Baylor among week’s big winners

Creighton
Expectations were sky-high for these Bluejays, but obviously, they did not live up to the early hype. A six-game losing streak, including a stunner against Nebraska, pushing Creighton out of the rankings, but they’ve slowly worked their way back into relevance. This week showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with, especially with the way that offense can play.
For starters, Creighton delivered a major punch on Wednesday night, handling St. John’s in a 104-76 victory. All five starters scored in double figures, the team hit nearly 57% of their field goals, and they got another double-double from Baylor Scheierman. An even more impressive result came Saturday, with Creighton triumphing 84-67 over #13 Xavier in what’s certainly their most impactful win of the season. All five starters again were in double figures, this time led by a 20-point outing from Arthur Kaluma.
The Bluejays keep working their way up the seedlines with performances like this. Beating Xavier the way they did is proof that the losing streak is in the past, especially with much of it coming without stud Ryan Kalkbrenner, the big man in the middle of the offense and defense. Expect their position to improve in next week’s bracketology, and don’t be shocked to see Creighton back in a single-digit seed again in most places.
