Bracketology 2023: Creighton, West Virginia and Baylor among week’s big winners

This Virginia Tech team is another one that ended last season on a very strong note. The Hokies then brought a plethora of talent and looked the part early. They began the year 11-1, with the lone loss coming to a very talented Charleston squad on the road in November. However, the Hokies’ hopes have gone downhill quickly with seven losses in a row. Fortunately, they got the momentum back on their side this week.
That swing happened on Monday, as the Hokies found their way to a 78-75 win against Duke. Grant Basile had 24 points and 8 rebounds and Virginia Tech got a victory they needed badly, shunning the Blue Devils. The weekend saw them turn it into a winning streak, knocking off Syracuse 85-70 in another home victory. Basile had 25 points this time and really spearheaded things for a Hokies squad that’s finally trending in the right direction again.
This week saw the Hokies play much better offense, but have they done enough? That kind of win over Duke looks great on the resume regardless of how those Blue Devils have been playing. This gets the Hokies back on the bubble, popping that 7-game losing skid and setting them up for a potential winning streak in the weeks ahead. The work is certainly not done at Virginia Tech, but there are no complaints after what Basile and this team accomplished this week.
