Texas Longhorns

I talked about a couple of Big 12 teams at the other end of Bracketology but who is most likely to get a 1 seed from the league? The two top options heading into this week were Kansas and Kansas State but both took losses. The one team that didn’t and landed a pair of Quad 1 victories were the Longhorns.

The first was on Monday against Baylor, where they pulled off a hard-fought 76-71 win. The hero of the game came off the bench in Sir’Jabari Rice, scoring a game-high 21 points. With that being the lone home game in a stretch of four straight ranked opponents, that was a needed victory.

Texas then went on the road and defeated Kansas State, 69-66 after coming back down double-digits in the first half. Both Rice and Christian Bishop had 14 points each off the bench to lead a balanced effort offensively in the win.

The Longhorns already had a top-10 NET ranking and zero losses outside of the Quad 1 range. And with an 8-4 record against Quad 1 opponents, they’re in great shape to be in range for a 1 seed. Seeing programs such as Purdue and Tennessee falling this week helped matters as well.
