Bracketology 2023: Duke, Penn State, Marquette and Utah State among biggest winners
Texas Longhorns
By the end of Sunday, there will be six programs that ended up with at least 10 Quad 1 victories. Not unexpected, four of them came from the Big 12, where every game was either a Quad 1 or 2 game. The most notable number at the top was with Kansas, who finished with an astonishing 17-7 record against Quad 1 opponents.
The Jayhawks were one game away from being a “winner” in the Big 12 Tournament, taking on the Texas Longhorns. In the end, interim head coach Rodney Terry was able to get 3 wins in 3 days, including Saturday’s 76-56 win to get the title. They also beat Oklahoma State and TCU in the days prior to add more Quad 1 wins, now up to 14 total, second to just the Jayhawks.
Texas has a top-10 NET ranking overall and zero losses outside of the Quad 1 range. While eight total losses can be an issue this season compared to the other top teams, the Big 12 has made a strong case that they should have two No. 1 seeds.
With Purdue struggling as of late, could a loss on Sunday put them on the outside of the 1 seed lines? It may feel as if the top four teams have been decided but the Longhorns have provided a compelling case this week and bigger surprises have occurred.
