UConn’s near-perfect Final Four record

UConn has made the Final Four six times in program history – all in the last 24 years. They’ve gone 4-1 in the national semifinals and are a perfect 4-0 in the national championship.

The Huskies might not have the decades of history that a traditional Blue Blood like Kentucky or North Carolina has, but their success in March over the last two-and-a-half decades is nearly unmatched.

Since Jim Calhoun led the Huskies to their first national title in 1999, only four programs have won multiple national championships and none have equaled UConn’s four titles. North Carolina and Duke have won three each, while Florida, Kansas, and Villanova have all won two.

UConn’s year-to-year consistency over the last decade has left something to be desired, but the Huskies are still playing to become one of just six programs with five or more NCAA championships. They would join UCLA (11), Kentucky (8), UNC (6), Duke (5), and Indiana. Despite having nearly 600 fewer victories all-time, they would break a tie with Kansas in terms of NCAA championships.

Of those six programs, only Duke and UCLA won at least five titles in a span of 25 years.

UConn’s big-picture place in the history of college basketball is undeniably notable among this year’s Final Four field, but before we pull out the history books and a Sharpie, the Huskies will have to go through a Miami team hungry for its first national title.
