NCAA Basketball: Top 25 uncommitted players in 2023 transfer portal
By Bryan Mauro
7. Tre White – Wing
Former Team: USC Trojans
It didn’t take long for White to grow a long list of potential transfer destinations and it makes sense given his ability. White is 6’7” shooting guard who can score from everywhere on the floor, he will be an elite offensive player before his career is over. The guard was a starter and played almost 30 minutes per night. He has not shown that he can be a reliable shooter from deep, at least yet. He has a repeatable release and has good form on his shot. It is believed as he gets older the threes will start to come.
Even if White is never a great shooter from deep, he is one of the more athletically gifted players in the college game and can do things that not many other players can. He is a coveted piece in the transfer portal and his offer list includes the likes of Kentucky, Indiana, Texas, Nebraska, Louisville, and Oklahoma State. White is early in the transfer process so expect a lot of movement in the next couple of weeks.
6. Matthew Cleveland – Guard
Former Team: Florida State Seminoles
Cleveland entered college as an NBA prospect and a future one-and-done player. Then Florida State had a down year and Cleveland had a tough year adjusting to the ACC. This year the Seminoles were worse, but Cleveland was better and started to look like the NBA prospect that many thought he could be. He saw an uptick in his three-point shooting numbers to 35%, shot 70% from the free throw line and added an additional 3 rebounds per game. The athleticism and ability have never been a question for Cleveland. He just needed to get acclimated to the game for a season before he finally took off. His next spot is going to one that he thrives, and he may be in for the breakout player of the year in the new conference. The guard has a final three of Miami, Auburn, and Missouri.
5. Olivier Nkamhoua – Forward
Former Team: Tennessee Volunteers
Olivier is one of the biggest names to enter the portal especially given the type of season he had at Tennessee and the future of the Tennessee program is big. The big man said that the reason for his transfer is that he wants to play in the NBA, and felt that his best chance of reaching that goal was taking his talents elsewhere. Nkamhoua is a stretch 5 he is masterful in the post both on the offensive and defensive end of the floor. He brings something that not many others in the portal can bring and that is the ability to step out and shoot threes.
The big man is not a flashy guy he is never going to average 15 points per game, but he is going to lock down the paint and get tough baskets inside when you need them. He is a throwback and should have a long career in the NBA if he does get a chance. Michigan and Arizona are the favorites to land his services.
