NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact transfer pickups from 2023 offseason
By John Makuch
No. 4 LJ Cryer (Houston)
Baylor has done a great job in producing guards that can shoot the ball from behind the arc effectively and create their own shot, and LJ Cryer adds that ability to the Houston Cougars.
The Cougars made a huge stride as a top team in the nation last season, and their success has allowed them to go get guys like Cryer, the senior to be out of Katy, Texas. Last season he averaged 15 points, 2.1 rebounds, and two assists per game as he started 31 games for the Bears.
While the Bears fell to Creighton in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Cryer showed up as he put up 30 points on the big stage that is March. His shooting also showed up, as he shot just around 42 percent from three-point range last season, and in his sophomore season, he shot an even more impressive 46.8 percent.
Cryer is effectively a Marcus Sasser replacement, who was the star of this team who recently departed for the NBA and the Detroit Pistons. For Cryer, he will hope to create the same Draft hype around himself that Sasser was able to receive in Houston.
