Big South Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
23. Rodney Glasgow
Duggar Baucom’s offenses were known for their run-and-gun style and Glasgow was certainly a beneficiary of that. He played under Baucom at VMI, starting his career way back in 2010. He actually played for those Keydets in their final four seasons in the Big South, though our only focus can be on this senior year, though that gives us plenty to praise.
Glasgow averaged 18.9 points and 5.9 assists as the starting point guard for the Keydets, also hitting nearly 40% of his 3-point attempts. Among his great contributions, he had 36 points in a win at Radford, 35 points and 10 assists in another road win at UNC Asheville, and led VMI to a 22-win season, a mark they have yet to top ever since. He wasn’t the top scorer that season for the Keydets, but he ran that offense and produced more points than anyone else in the league.
He was the league’s top free throw shooter, was among the top players nationally in a number of offensive metrics, and finished 12th in the country in total assists. His First Team All-Big South honor was clearly earned with his hard work. Some of these inflated points come from Baucom’s offense, but a plan like that doesn’t work without the right players calling the shots. Glasglow did what he needed to do with the Keydets, it’s as simple as that.
