NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 8 teams for 5-star 2024 PG Boogie Fland
St. John’s Red Storm
With the Syracuse Orange out of the mix, St. John’s becomes the local option for Fland. And with head coach Rick Pitino now leading the program, they suddenly become very viable for top prospects. In fact, they just landed Simeon Wilcher, a top-40 guard, and former UNC commit.
The Red Storm should have Iona transfer Daniss Jenkins run the offense at point for next season but he has one year left. And the only other true ball-handler the Big East program has is another former Iona guard in Cruz Davis, who was Jenkins backup over there. It’s a situation where Fland can come in and be a focal point of the offense and able to stay close to home, while also remaining in the national picture.
UConn Huskies
The national champions just landed its first class of 2024 commit in four-star wing Isaiah Abraham, the first of a potential big class. Tristen Newton has just one more season in him and his backup, Hassan Diarra, is also a senior. The team does have a couple of playmaking freshmen arriving in four-star Solomon Ball and five-star combo guard, Stephon Castle.
There’s a real chance that Castle ends up sticking around for one year as well. So the Huskies could very well need another ball-handler a year from now. They’re also in the mix for four-star prospect Ahmad Nowell as well and he may be a more likely option. If he picks UConn a week from now, they may focus elsewhere to round out the class.
