NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 5 teams in play for 5-star Jayden Quaintance
Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes have been focusing on both the backcourt and wing positions in the past two classes. Austin Parks, a four-star center prospect and incoming freshman, has been the lone exception. But the team is going to need another big man, in case they lose Zed Key, a starting big man entering his 4th year in NCAA Basketball.
Coach Chris Holtmann has a good history with freshmen breaking out early and becoming pros, with Brice Sensabaugh being the latest example. And even if Key opted to come back for a 5th year, the team can easily play him and Quaintance together in the frontcourt and it not be much of an issue.
Washington Huskies
The Huskies have added veterans this offseason to get back in the NCAA Tournament, including most recently, Paul Mulcahy of Rutgers. He joins the frontcourt duo of Keion Brooks and Portland transfer, Moses Wood. Both of them will be gone after next season so there’s a huge need for an impact big man to replace them such as Quaintance.
It’ll have to be a nice recruiting class for Washington to make it worth it for Quaintance since they’d be losing four of their top players on the roster. Top-40 freshman guard Wesley Yates would be a nice piece to play with but there needs to be more. Still, watch the Huskies here if they get serious and try to offer the big man a lot in order to come out west.
