Horizon League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
20. Trey Calvin
A 6’0 point guard from Glendale Heights, Illinois, Calvin arrived at Wright State back in 2019. A solid backcourt weapon, he’d see his role with the Raiders grow substantially with each passing season, developing into one of the Horizon League’s very best players in this most recent season.
Calvin came off the bench with limited production as a freshman but saw his numbers rise as a sophomore. He broke through with 14.6 points per game as a junior but really came through late in the year, helping lead Wright State to the Horizon League Tournament title. Calvin also led the way with 21 points in their First Four win over Bryant. Senior year was even better, as he averaged 20.3 points and 3.7 assists per game, including a 37-point performance on opening night against Davidson ad a 44-point effort in a triple-overtime game against Youngstown State.
He progressed into a major force in the league, earning First Team All-Horizon honors for that dynamic senior season. He sat among the conference’s leaders in a number of categories, including points, assists, and free throw percentage. Calvin has already helped the Raiders to an interesting NCAA Tournament run and will be back for a fifth year with the Raiders next season. Perhaps he’ll take yet another step forward, hoping to be one of the Horizon’s very best players this upcoming year.
