3. Dylan Harper – No. 1 overall prospect

Recruiting battle: Duke vs Kansas vs Rutgers

Harper has consistently been the top prospect in the 2024 class for months and his play has earned that distinction. He’s a 6’5 combo guard from New Jersey, with great size that benefits him on both ends. Harper has no true weaknesses as an NCAA Basketball prospect, is capable of running an offense, and can defend multiple positions at a high level.

A few months ago, Harper had a list of five programs in the mix. Auburn and Indiana have been involved, though the Hoosiers may be more focused on Boogie Fland. The Tigers also have a five-star guard commit in Tahaad Pettiford as well so in case that plays a role. Kansas is a team that’s also potentially looking for a guard if they’re out with Diallo but at the moment, it looks like a two-horse race.

Duke already has two commits in the class, including top-10 guard/wing Isaiah Evans. Assuming that both Jeremy Roach and Tyrese Proctor leave after next season, Harper could come right in and be the focal point of the offense. Still, the Scarlet Knights, the local option, could offer that and more.

What makes this such an interesting recruitment is that Rutgers already has Ace Bailey committed, the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2024 class. If the Big Ten program can pull that off, they, not Duke or Kentucky, would have the top two players in the entire group on their roster for the 2024-25 season. And that would be a massive future storyline for NCAA Basketball.
