MEAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
11. Jibri Blount
A 6’7 wing originally from Pittsburgh, Blount starred at the high school level in West Virginia and Akron before beginning his college days at Cleveland State. After two seasons, mostly as a reserve, he transferred away from the Vikings, landing at North Carolina Central in 2018. He’d finish his career with the Eagles and turned into another star for that program.
After sitting out as a transfer, Blount was back on the court in 2018, averaging 10.1 points off the bench for the Eagles. He had a few 20-point games and played a role in North Carolina Central’s MEAC Tournament title. His role would significantly increase as a senior, evident by his 19-rebound performance against USC Upstate in the season’s second game. Blount would average 19.1 points and 9.3 rebounds a game and lead the Eagles to the MEAC regular season title, though the pandemic would squash their chances at another postseason bid.
Blount fit great with North Carolina Central and really elevated his game as a senior, earning MEAC Player of the Year as a result. In that final collegiate season, he ranked Top 3 in the MEAC in points, rebounds, and steals and was a major factor in another regular season title and successful year for the Eagles. Blount certainly saved his best for the end of his career, finally finding his groove with those Eagles at the end.
