NEC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
13. Josh Cohen
A 6’10 center from Lincroft, New Jersey, Cohen would redshirt his original season after arriving at St. Francis PA back in 2019. He cheered from the bench for a successful season for the Red Flash and then started to rebuild that success in these last three seasons, eventually becoming the best frontcourt player in the league.
He actually came off the bench as a redshirt freshman and didn’t do too much more as a sophomore, with much of our focus coming from his most recent season with the Red Flash. As a junior, Cohen finally carved out his place with this lineup, averaging 21.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while leading the Red Flash to a bounce back season, finishing 4th place in the NEC. It’s a junior season that included 40-point performances against both Lehigh and Hawaii in nonconference play.
At the end of his junior season, Cohen was named First Team All-NEC and was Co-Player of the League in the conference. His numbers absolutely skyrocketed, leading the conference in points and field goal percentages and taking another big step forward, having been the NEC Most Improved Player the year prior. He’ll look to keep building upwards, though his time in the NEC has come to an end: Cohen will star at UMass next season.
