NEC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
7. Raiquan Clark
When Clark’s college career began in 2015, he was a preferred walk-on at LIU. A 6’6 wing from New Haven, Connecticut, he played just two minutes in a freshman season he’d eventually redshirt. A career that started off in an insignificant role would blossom into a historical success for the Blackbirds, as Clark would score and contribute quite a lot in the coming years.
He actually got playing time as a redshirt freshman, but really exploded onto the scene in year three. Clark averaged 17.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore and had 28 points in the semifinal of the NEC Tournament, with LIU winning and making the 2018 NCAA Tournaments. During his upperclassman seasons, Clark continued to grow as a scorer, with a handful of 30-point games, solid rebounding numbers, and averaging right around 19 points a game in each season.
Not only would Clark lead the NEC in scoring in those final two seasons, but his 2030 career points made him LIU’s all-time leading scorer. He was named First Team All-NEC for both of those years, all while putting up decent shooting and rebounding figures for a decent LIU squad. He’d get his chance in the Big Dance and truly prove himself, working all the way from walk-on to best scorer in program history.
