OVC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
21. Patrick Miller
Miller is a 6’1 point guard originally from Chicago who got his collegiate start way back in 2010. He spent all four of his seasons at Tennessee State, with two seasons apiece under head coaches John Cooper and Travis Williams. Frankly, the Tigers’ performance was awful in his final season, but his numbers were pretty fantastic in the only season he played in the last ten years.
After proving himself as a reliable backcourt performer in his first three seasons, Miller’s numbers skyrocketed as a senior. He’d average 23.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, with decent shooting figures from all over the court. Tennessee State didn’t win many games that year, but he did have a career-high 38 points in a rare road win at Morehead State very late in the season, just one of a handful of 30-point performances.
As he was the top scorer in the OVC, it’s not shocking that Miller earned First Team All-OVC honors, even as his Tigers finished just 5-25 on the year. He actually ranked 5th in the nation in points per game and had decent steal and assists numbers throughout his collegiate career. We’re basing this inclusion off that senior year alone, and it’s hard to argue against the raw numbers even while the team struggle. Miller was a great player and scorer and one of the best in the OVC in recent years.
