SEC Basketball: Each team’s best acquisition out of 2023 transfer portal
Noah Thomasson – 6’3 Guard – Georgia Bulldogs
Noah Thomasson is an emerging guard prospect to get to know with the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC basketball ranks after holding his own in the MAAC with the Niagara Purple Eagles. He had himself a breakout junior campaign before heading to the transfer portal this past offseason.
He made quite the name for himself this past season with Niagara as he produced 19.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 3.5 apg, all career-high averages for him. He shot 52.1 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from deep while earning first-team All-MAAC honors.
Thomasson has made quite the journey already through the collegiate ranks, playing in the Southland Conference with Houston Christian in 2019-20 before using a year of JUCO at Butler Community College in 2020-21 to develop his game and gain some much-need experience on the hardwood.
Since then, things have worked out for him as he looks to up the ante in the SEC. He put up a career-best 35 points on a career-best 15 made field goals against Canisius back on March 4.
Thomasson led the MAAC in field goal percentage, finished second in total points (604) and field goals made (231), fifth in field goal percentage and seventh in assists (108). He’s a big guard prospect that will look to bring his ability to rebound, make plays for others, and make things happen as a scorer to the Bulldogs this upcoming season.
He’ll certainly face some stiffer competition than what he faced in the MAAC. After finishing Top 10 in scoring, field goal percentage and assists, he’ll look to make a similar impact in a power conference this upcoming season.
The Bulldogs return four players from last year’s 16-16 squad that finished 6-12 in the SEC standings. With Thomasson and their other four transfers out of the portal, they’ll look to be a lot more competitive in 2023-24.
