12. Max Mahoney

Mahoney is a 6’8 center originally from Basking Ridge, New Jersey who had some fine years in the Patriot League himself. He’d spend his four years of college basketball playing at Boston University starting in 2016. He was a bench piece early in his career but developed into a major frontcourt weapon for the Terriers until his career was cut short by the pandemic four years later.

He was putting up some decent numbers from the bench as a freshman before taking a step forward in year two. As a sophomore, Mahoney averaged 12.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, becoming a much more important part of the Terriers’ game plan. His offensive numbers were even better as a junior, now good for 16.5 points a game, but his best season was his last one. Not only did he average 15.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists a game, Mahoney also led the Terriers to the Patriot League Tournament title in 2020.

Mahoney was certainly impactful throughout his career, earning All-Patriot honors three times, but really shined in that senior year. Not only was he the league’s best offensive rebounder and perhaps their best interior scorer, he was named First Team All-Patriot, All-Defense, and the Tournament MVP for the league. Since the pandemic cancelled the postseason, he truly went out on a winning note after plenty of production at Boston University.
