22. Roddy Peters

By any definition, Peters’ journey to the Southland was extremely indirect. Considered a Top 50 prospect in the Class of 2013, this 6’3 combo guard from Washington DC stayed close to home, taking his talents to Maryland. He would transfer after a single season to South Florida but played just 10 games with the Bulls due to injury. Due to sitting out a year between both transfers, by the time he arrived at Nicholls State, it was already the 2017-18 college basketball season.

Peters showed promise at the high major level, but really shined in the Southland in his senior season. He averaged 19.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists for the Colonels. Not only was he the program’s leading scorer, but he led them to a regular-season championship and a 21-win season. He had career-highs with 34 points and 12 rebounds against Western Kentucky early in the year and would play great ball later on during Southland play.

He certainly got his chances with the Colonels, emerged as a First Team All-Southland player and one of the most talented to come through the league in recent years. Peters finished among the conference’s leaders in points and defensive rebounds and was an efficient interior scorer. His collegiate journey certainly wasn’t what many anticipated or expected but he made that final year at Nicholls State really count.
