Louisville Basketball: 3 keys to a successful 2023-24 season for Cardinals
By Caleb Hall
No. 3 – Make the NCAA Tournament
The Louisville Cardinals need to make the NCAA Tournament next March and If they don’t it will be considered by Louisville fans a disappointing season. Louisville has always been known since the Denny Crum era as a national basketball powerhouse. If Kenny Payne can’t get Louisville back to national prominence then in the fans eyes, he isn’t worth being kept around.
Making the tourney is the first step in the right direction, if Louisville makes the tourney then it proves that Payne can keep improving his team year after year. All Louisville fans are looking for is enough stable improvement that shows eventually they will get to the final four and national championship runs they used to from the Pitino and Crum eras.
It doesn’t matter if a team goes 4-28 or 19-12, if they both don’t make the tournament then its counted as a failed season in the fans’ eyes. Payne has the player talent and coaching talent to lead the Cardinals to be a successful team, it’s all just a matter of willpower and getting the players to execute the game plan as well as they can.
Louisville can succeed in the 2023-24 under Payne and this new talent. The NCAA Tournament is the No. 1 goal for this team this season, and if Payne can’t reach it’ll be hard to call it a successful season for the Louisville Cardinals in 2024.
