7. Kevin Hervey

Hervey is a 6’7 forward from Arlington, Texas who stayed right at home, playing four seasons at UT Arlington starting back in 2014. He became a reliable weapon for Scott Cross’s program and helped lead the Mavericks to considerable success while developing into a very talented ballplayer.

He put up decent numbers early on, but his sophomore season is where things started coming together. Though an injury would knock him out in mid-January, Hervey averaged 18.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, a major step forward that would continue as an upperclassman. With similar numbers, he’d help lead UT Arlington to a regular season title in the Sun Belt the following year. For his senior season, Hervey was good for 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game, including a 30-point, 16-rebound effort against UTRGV early in the season.

Due both to his and the program’s success in 2017, Hervey was named Sun Belt Player of the Year as a junior. He was given First Team All-Sun Belt honors in both of his final two seasons, emerging as one of the league’s best scorers and rebounders. While the Mavericks fell short of the NCAA Tournament, they won at least 20 games in those final three seasons and Hervey really showed his talents all over the court. As a result, he was draft late in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft and has continued his career playing overseas.
