3. Norchad Omier

A 6’7 big man from Nicaragua, Omier got his college career started with a pair of great seasons at Arkansas State. At this point, he’s certainly most known for appearing in the Final Four last year at Miami, but his time in the Sun Belt was pretty exceptional as well, starring for two years with the Red Wolves.

He’d put up sensational numbers already as a freshman, averaging 12.6 points and 12.3 rebounds for Arkansas State. Though those Red Wolves didn’t win a ton of games in his two seasons, his contributions were off the chart in the Sun Belt. For his second season, he was at 17.9 points and 12.2 rebounds a game, playing an even larger role on offense. He had a 23-point, 26-rebound performance against Louisiana-Monroe and would later drop a career-high 35 points on them in the Sun Belt Tournament.

One of the nation’s best rebounders, Omier was named Sun Belt Rookie of the Year as a freshman but earned both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year billing in his second and final season at Arkansas State. He was one of just a handful of players to average a double-double in both seasons, was the league’s best interior scorer, and showcased his ability in those years in the Sun Belt. He was off to Miami in 2022 and did play in the Final Four; he’ll be back as a senior this upcoming season.
