Shooting Guard

Starter – Santiago Vescovi (20 mpg)

The Volunteers have a lot to work with in their backcourt this season, especially given the playmaking ability of both Santiago Vescovi and Zakai Zeigler in the backcourt. Vescovi returns after posting 12.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.1 apg and 1.8 spg on 37 percent shooting from deep.

He led Tennessee in perimeter shooting this past season, knocking down 2.8 3-pointers per contest while also leading them in scoring. He’ll be looked upon to share some of the guard duties while operating primarily at the off-guard spot. With more firepower across the board and his continued development, look for him to play a vital role in the team’s success this season.

Bench- Jordan Gainey (10 mpg), Freddie Dilione (10 mpg)

Jordan Gainey and Freddie Dilione should compete for minutes at the backup shooting guard role for the Volunteers. Gainey holds an advantage given the body of work he’s done in the Big South with USC Upstate over the past two seasons. He led the Big South in steals (62) and finished seventh in 3-pointers made (70) this past season. Dilione is an early enroller who’s been with the team since January. He had an impressive outing during their three international exhibition wins in Italy in August, averaging 11.0 ppg and a team-best 5.3 apg.
