Tennessee Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Volunteers
By Joey Loose
Schedule Outlook
There’s no rest for the weary, as the Volunteers will have several challenges in the opening month of the season. They’ll head to Madison to play at Wisconsin on November 10th and will then fly to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational just a week and a half later. They’ll face Syracuse in round one and then either Purdue or Gonzaga, with an unknown opponent for game three. Their next game after returning from Hawaii is a tricky road matchup at North Carolina, with Tennessee playing just twice at home in November.
The schedule eases up in December, though it does include an intriguing home game against Illinois on December 9th. Most of their final nonconference matchups are relatively easy home matchups, though they will head to San Antonio on December 16th for a neutral-site game against NC State.
SEC play begins January 6th with a home date against Ole Miss. The Volunteers actually have a very appealing start to conference play and could legitimately finish January at 7-0 in league play, with the trickiest game being a home date with Alabama on January 20th.
February starts with a road trip at Kentucky and features a number of tough road games, including trips to Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Missouri. They’ll play South Carolina twice this season but also get two shots at Alabama and Kentucky, with those latter matchups coming in early March.
