Virginia Tech will look to build some early chemistry in the season opener against Coppin State. An early matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks in Charlotte will be an early test at game 2 of the season. Both teams will appear as the finale of a tripleheader in the 2023 Hall of Fame Series presented by HeGetsUs.com at the Spectrum Center. It will mark the team’s first meeting since 1997. The Gamecocks hold the advantage in the series with a record of 13-18 against the Hokies.

Campbell and Wofford will be two teams that renew their respective series with the Hokies this season. It’s the first meeting against Campbell since 2011 and the first against Wofford since 2002. After that, it’s off to Florida for the ESPN Events Invitational with the potential to face some possible NCAA Tournament teams from Nov. 23-26.

The Hokies will play their lone road game of the non-conference slate in the ACC/SEC Challenge against the Auburn Tigers in Alabama. It will be their first meeting against the Tigers since 1999. Virginia Tech is 2-0 at home, 0-1 on the road and 0-4 at neutral site games against Auburn interestingly enough.

Valparaiso and the Hokies will meet for the first time ever on Dec. 9 before facing off against Vermont and American to close out the non-conference schedule. The Hokies should have a lot of confidence and wins heading into the ACC basketball schedule. They’ll need to defend a lot better and close out games that are close or their win total in conference action could be below last year’s total of eight.
