Big Ten Basketball: Ranking all 14 head coaches heading into 2023-24 season
By Caleb Hall
No. 3: Brad Underwood, Illinois Fighting Illini
Brad Underwood has a lot of experience as a player and a coach, and his tenure at Illinois has proved to be very successful.
Brad Underwood was a guard at Kansas State and eventually transitioned into an assistant coach for many schools even including Kansas State and South Carolina. He had head coaching jobs at Stephen F. Austin and Oklahoma State until eventually accepting the job at Illinois in 2017.
Underwood struggled at Illinois when he started there, but since the 2020-21 season he has consistently had 20+ win seasons, and doing justice to the fighting Illini fans. Although he has not led his team outside of the first weekend, with his experience and level of coaching it is bound to happen soon. Underwood has some of the best experience in the BIG Ten when it comes to coaching and because of that he is so high on this list.
Illinois has turned around because of Brad Underwood, and he is one of the best coaches in the BIG Ten because of it.
