Ohio State Basketball: 9 candidates to replace Chris Holtmann as Head Coach
By Joey Loose
Sean Miller
Here’s another current power conference head coach who has been successful and could succeed with a change of scenery. We’ve already been here before with Miller, who once was the hot mid-major coach who landed the big-time power conference job, but could it happen again at Ohio State?
A former point guard at Pittsburgh, Miller assisted at several schools, including at Xavier under future Ohio State head coach Thad Matta. Miller would succeed Matta as Xavier’s head coach, accomplished an Elite Eight and a bunch of success in five years. Next would come 12 years leading Arizona to several trips to the Big Dance, including three more Elite Eight’s. After Arizona fired him in 2021, Miller sat out a season before returning to Xavier, leading the Musketeers to the Sweet Sixteen in his first year back last season.
Miller has been a great recruiter through his basketball career and would bring a lot to Ohio State. We’re not sure if he’s interested in ending this reunion with Xavier after just two seasons, but this Buckeyes post is one that doesn’t open up very often. Even though he fell short of his goals in Arizona, Miller has proven that he’s a fantastic head coach who knows how to build successful teams and win games; what’s not to like for the faithful at Ohio State?
