UCLA Dismisses Reeves Nelson
By Blake Lovell
In a move that should shock absolutely no one, UCLA head coach Ben Howland finally decided to make a move that most thought he should have made a while back
Howland has officially dismissed Reeves Nelson from the team after suspending him indefinitely only three days ago.
Here’s the quote from Howland himself:
"In fairness for the team, there’s a point where we have to move forward and do what’s best for the team. He’s disappointed but he also understands that this is a final decision. This is it. We are moving forward without him."
This is what we all saw coming at some point.
After this latest suspension, it just seemed like a matter of time before Howland realized that continuing in this direction would not be good for his basketball team. Especially considering the well-documented struggles that they’ve been having on the court this season.
Nelson could have been the star player that led this team to a Pac-12 title, and that’s really what the expectations were entering the season.
But my how things can change so quickly.
While this certainly helps from a locker standpoint, it doesn’t help at all from a basketball standpoint. Nelson could score and rebound, and he seemed to be the one guy that could make a charge scoring-wise when they needed it in the past.
So while this may have fixed one problem with this UCLA squad, there’s plenty of more that have to be addressed before they can turn things around this season.
