Loose Gunman Postpones Ohio vs. Eastern Michigan Game

An uncontained “armed fugitive” spotted near the campus of Ohio University has led to the postponement of Wednesday night’s game between Ohio and Eastern Michigan. The game between the Bobcats (15-5, 6-0 Mid-American Conference) and Eagles (10-10, 3-3 MAC) was scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET.

School officials closed down the Athens campus because the gunman has not been apprehended, according to the university’s website. The school is scheduled to reopen, as normal, on Thursday.

Ohio University officials had called in extra police officers following an armed robbery Wednesday morning at an apartment complex just off-campus, then notified students of the developments. The school alleges the suspect had a handgun and fled on foot in the direction of the campus.

Wednesday’s postponed game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. Ohio and Eastern Michigan each initially had an 11-day layoff scheduled between February 16 and 27, so the makeup date will break up the down time as both teams gear up for postseason play.
