Sunday night, the NCAA announced the release of the 2013 NIT Bracket live on ESPNU, with the No. 1 seeds including defending NCAA Champion, the Kentucky Wildcats, in addition to Alabama, Virginia and Southern Miss.
The tournament kicks off on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Eastern with four concurrent games on opening night. No. 2 Maryland hosts No. 7 Niagara on ESPN 2 and No. 4 St. Joe’s matches up against St. John’s on ESPNU. At 7:30 p.m., Kentucky gets their feet with in the NIT for the first time since 2009, when they match up against Robert Morris. Despite Robert Morris being a eighth seed and the final automatic qualifier in the field, they’ll actually play host to Kentucky, due to Rupp Arena hosting the NCAA Tournament –and top overall seed Louisville– this week.
Tuesday night’s most intriguing game just might be Florida State and Louisiana Tech, which can be seen on ESPN3 at 7:15 p.m. The Bulldogs found themselves in the AP Poll earlier this season and sport a 26-6 record, while FSU is a battle-tested mid-tier ACC team with plenty of tournament experience.
Other games of note in the first round include BYU and Washington on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN, and Baylor and Long Beach State, which tips off Wednesday night 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN 2.
We’ll have more on the NIT tomorrow, including a full breakdown. For now, check out the full bracket below.
