While MAC Football may be something that fans love and refer to as “MACtion”, many don’t pay as much attention to MAC Basketball, despite the fact that it has produced some wonderful mid-major teams, from Wally Szczerbiak’s 1999 Miami (OH) team that made the Sweet Sixteen to Akron’s win last season to earn a twelve seed in the NCAA Tournament.

This season, the MAC is full of solid teams who have a good shot at earning an NCAA Tournament berth.  With four teams that have twenty wins, as well as a 19-win Buffalo squad, the MAC is one of the most evenly-matched mid-majors, if not conferences, in the nation.  The Toledo Rockets and Western Michigan Broncos are certainly the favorites for this tournament, if dual favorites are even possible.  Toledo managed to accumulate a 26-5 overall record and a 14-4 record in MAC play.  At this point, if it’s not them or Western Michigan earning the NCAA auto-bid, I’m not sure who will.
