Kansas Jayhawks center, Joel Embiid, did not come to college with the same hype as Andrew Wiggins. Still, the teammates are likely to be two of the top three picks when the NBA Draft begins on Thursday, June 26th. Well, at least that is what everyone is saying, since we have all assumed Embiid was going to declare early entry.

Assume no longer. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Embiid is declaring for the 2014 NBA Draft.

Embiid is only 20-years-old, a legit seven-foot behemoth and a guy who has only been playing organized basketball for a very short period of time. Which is a pretty big deal considering the fact how polished his offensive game already is and how much more room he has left to grow as a player.

There are some issues lingering for the big man, though. A back injury that kept him from participating in the NCAA Tournament will certainly keep some NBA franchises from drafting him. Or, at least, be extremely cautious going forward.

Even if his back might be a small issue, Joel Embiid is enough of a presence on the defensive end of the floor that (back injury and all) he shouldn’t fall out of being a top three pick.

Update: According to Embiid himself, via Twitter, no decision has actually been made as of yet. We will keep you posted.
