Cuonzo Martin not only saved his job with the Tennessee Volunteers by making magic happen in March, but has apparently become a hot commodity within other programs’ coaching searches.

According to ESPN, the Marquette Golden Eagles met with Martin and their interest in each other has been gauged as mutual.

While the Vols could likely match whatever offer Marquette hurls towards Martin’s direction, it could be the overall spending of the Golden Eagles that makes the job too good for him to refuse.

Marquette, according to a few studies, is sixth as far as spending goes on their basketball program. That is just behind the Kansas Jayhawks.

In something interesting to factor in with this equation, Martin’s buyout becomes about a million dollars cheaper on April 1.

Interim athletic director Bill Cords met with Cuonzo Martin on Sunday, but that isn’t where he is stopping his options. Other reports have Marquette also interested in former UCLA coach Ben Howland and current Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski.

We will certainly have updates as the situation develops.
