Derrick Gordon becomes first active gay Division I basketball player

Two separate features, by two separate networks, dropped just a few minutes ago. The story of both articles being about one man, Derrick Gordon , deciding to first out himself as gay to his teammates and then to the nation.
OutSports and ESPNW both have incredible features telling the story. Both are worth reading, sharing and remembering.
Gordon, a redshirt sophomore for the Massachusetts Minutemen, is making history with this announcement. As mentioned earlier, he becomes the fist active gay basketball player at this high of a level of college hoops.
According to both features, Derrick Gordon asked UMass head coach Derek Kellogg to call a team meeting. In that meeting, Gordon shared his secret of being gay, one that he now shares with the rest of the world today.
This means a ton of different things to a ton of different people. Regardless of your beliefs, though, it should be recognized that the courage that it must have taken for Derrick Gordon to not only come out to his teammates, but to the entire country as well, is incredible.
