Jim Fox named the new head coach of Appalachian State

Nov 29, 2013; Athens, GA, USA; Appalachian State Mountaineers forward Tommy Spagnolo (15) and Georgia Bulldogs forward Donte. I guess some of these guy will need to adjust to new head coach, Jim Fox.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers might not be on the lips of every college basketball fan, but it is a pretty solid program. Well, solid enough that they aren’t the bottom-feeders of the college basketball world. However, last season wasn’t all that swell and it resulted in the firing of Jason Capel (9-21 last year). That move did result in a little Jim Fox news, though.

On Tuesday, Appalachian State announced that Jim Fox would be taking over the head coaching duties.

Fox is a former Davidson assistant under Bob McKillop. He served different forms of assistant roles for that program for 13 years.

The move has more ramifications in the short-term than just getting a new head coach. Appalachian State is leaving the Southern Conference to join the Sun Belt Conference for the 2014-2015 season.

While the news is official, a press conference is scheduled for this morning to make the news officially official (I guess?).
