The Pittsburgh Panthers and Jamie Dixon lost out on a 2016 top-50 recruit as Maverick Rowan reopened his recruitment.

"Maverick Rowan has reopened his recruitment. Pitt still very much an option, but he is now open.– Matthew Steinbrink"

Rowan is a ranked #38 by ESPN and is a four-star prospect. Both Louisville and West Virginia offered Rowan, while Notre Dame was also in the mix.

It looked like the Panthers would have a hell of a start to the 2016 class, having had commitments from both Rowan and #25 recruit Mustapha Heron, another four-star prospect. The decommitment of Rowan certainly hurts the Panther program, although they apparently will still be in the running.

Many felt that the tide was changing in August, despite Rowan having verbally committed. The 6’5 wingman, who grew up in Pennsylvania, moved to Florida. The fears were clearly valid with the recent announcement.

Rowan is one of the best scorers in his class, with the size to play either the two-guard or the small forward position. In his last year in Pennsylvania with WPIAL Lincoln Park, he averaged 26.3 points as a sophomore and was well on his way to shattering state scoring records.

With the move to Florida, schools like Florida or Florida State may also get involved, although the status of his recruitment is unknown. Keep tuning into Busting Brackets for more information on this and all other recruiting news!
