Ever Wondered How Teams Create Their Season Schedules?
By Blake Lovell
I’ve always been intrigued by the scheduling that certain college basketball teams do. For instance, some coaches load up on juggernauts regardless of how good their team is, while others choose to play the worst teams in the country on a consistent basis.
Non-conference games are a lot of fun. So it’s always interesting to see how teams schedule from year to year, and decide if they want to help their RPI…..or simply win by 40.
So luckily, it was awesome to see this post come across my Twitter feed yesterday from the guys over at Rush the Court.
It basically discusses how teams go about finding opponents for the upcoming season and about the incentives that are offered. We all know about the “guarantee games” that smaller programs add to their schedule to get a nice payday and give their players a memorable experience at a traditional power program.
This particular post expands on that and gives some unique scenarios that have come up in the college scheduling world.
It’s a must-read for all college basketball fans, and as you’ll find out, the process is a whole lot simpler than you might expect.
So head over and give it a read: Rush the Court – Cupcakes Wanted: Inquire Within
