MoMo Jones Will Join St. John’s
By Blake Lovell
A big story developing this morning concerning former Arizona point guard Lamont “MoMo” Jones, who decided to transfer several days ago.
Lenn Robbins of the New York Post is reporting that Jones has found a new school already, and that school is St. John’s.
Now, if this is indeed the case, this is a huge get for Steve Lavin. He’s already got some very good recruits coming in, and now he adds a superb point guard like Jones to the mix? That’s a big step in the right direction.
So although the Red Storm lose nine seniors from last year’s team, the recruiting class and the addition of Jones would certainly help alleviate the inexperience a little bit. They should still have another great season, and are clearly on the upswing with Lavin at the helm.
And also, the important point in this story as well is that Jones could very well be eligible to play next season.
Any time someone transfers, eligibility questions always pop up, but it sounds like the NCAA’s rules concerning hardship would allow him to play according to this report.
Who knows when the official word will come down on this, but again, if this is true, Lavin has to be one pretty happy head coach right now.
