Is Oklahoma the Next School to Exit the Big 12?
By Blake Lovell
With Texas A&M trying to inch closer and closer to joining the SEC, it looks like the next school in line to make the jump from the Big 12 to another conference might just be Oklahoma.
There are reports that Oklahoma officials met with Texas officials on the basis that Oklahoma is entertaining the possibility of leaving the Big 12 to join the Pac 12. Needless to say, if this happens, the Big 12 is in trouble. Big trouble.
It should also be noted that in the news story, a source states that Oklahoma would be willing to wait for a certain amount of time before going full steam ahead in pursuing membership in the Pac 12. Oklahoma would clearly prefer that Texas join them, but it sounds like Texas is more on the side of staying in the Big 12, and doing everything that they can to keep the Big 12 together.
The idea of the superconferences is one that might worry certain college sports’ fans. This might be the big move that determines one way or the other whether that is actually gonna happen or not.
If Oklahoma does indeed leave for the Pac 12, then you’ve gotta believe that the domino effect begins. Of course, the biggest domino is Texas, and although they are publicly saying that they want to remain with the Big 12, a move by Oklahoma might make them rethink their plans.
Which side are you on? Would you like to see a potential Pac 16, with Oklahoma and Texas involved? Or would you rather see both teams stay in the Big 12?
