Changes Coming to the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic
By Blake Lovell
One of the regular staples of the non-conference slate in college basketball is the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, which always boasts a great field with some exciting matchups.
The tournament has taken place Madison Square Garden, but starting in 2012, there will be a new home of the event. Starting with 2012 edition of the event, the tournament will head to the not yet completed Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which will be finished before the season begins next year.
There’s also some changes coming presentation-wise as well, with the games moving from ESPN to truTV since Turner is taking over the sponsorship and all that.
It will certainly be a little different to see this great event move from the mecca of hoops, but it’s understandable considering the new building in Brooklyn and the new direction in college basketball with the inclusion of Turner as a television partner.
And you can pretty much bet that next year’s tournament will boast an awesome field just to showcase some of these changes. But of course, we all know that the action on the court is secondary when it comes to the purpose of this event as a whole.
The fight against cancer is what matters most here, and I’m sure that Turner Sports will keep the tradition going of doing all they can to raise money to support the fight.
